2024 College Scholarship Recipients
One of the highlights on our Park District calendar is the annual awarding of college scholarships to graduating high school seniors that soon will be moving on to colleges and careers. This year’s list of recipients are outstanding students that show great leadership and potential, and we look forward to the positive differences they will make in the future. The Board of Commissioners congratulate the following recipients of the Frankfort Square Park District 2024College Scholarship awards: Mia Hedrick, Kira Jekel, Emily Neumann, Grace Palmer, Kaleigh Young, Angelina Bushnell, Cailey Petro, and Paul Fugett. The FSPD Board and staff wish all graduates the best of luck in their college years!
FY2024 OSLAD Grant Award
The Frankfort Square Park District is thrilled to announce that it has been chosen to receive a $600,000 Open Space Lands Acquisition and Development (OSLAD) grant award from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
This grant will fund the redevelopment of one of the original FSPD parks, Hunter Prairie Park, located at 7420 W. North Avenue in Frankfort.
The Park District appreciates the support it has received over the years from the Villages of Frankfort and Tinley Park, our local High School and Elementary School Districts, community groups, and, most importantly, FSPD residents that attended the public meetings, wrote letters of support, and provided valuable input that has been incorporated into the Hunter Prairie Park Plan.
Since 1980, the Park District has received $4,944,760 in grant funding from various sources that has made acquisitions and improvements possible throughout the District, including but not limited to Union Creek Park, Lighthouse Pointe Park, Brookside Bayou & Community Gardens Park, Community Park, development and improvements, acquisition of Square Links Golf Course, along with the bike path, boardwalk extension, and picnic shelters. It is through various funding vehicles that the Park District has been able to provide quality open space and recreation offerings that FSPD residents have come to expect and enjoy. Revitalization of Hunter Prairie Park will ensure that it will be a great asset that the community will enjoy for many more years to come.
